KN Ski Team
The Kawartha Nordic Ski Team offers training and racing opportunities for youth and adults aged 11 and up, led by experienced NCCP Nordic Ski coaches.
Whether your goal is to get fit, ski faster, or experience the thrill of racing, our team provides a fun, supportive, and motivating environment to help you reach your potential.
We also offer a special combined U10 Ski Team program for experienced classic skiers aged 9–10 who want to continue their Classic skiing as a member of the KN Ski Team, while also learning to skate ski with a Track Attack group on Saturdays.
Our program is designed for competent classic and/or skate skiers who are ready to train, improve, and challenge themselves. If you're new to skiing, please consider our youth programs or private lesson options before joining the team.
What's Included:
- Race experiences for those interested in trying or pursuing any level of racing
- Fitness and technical skill development
- Healthy, outdoor recreation throughout the ski season
- The camaraderie and social support of a team environment
- Regular training for those interested in skiing fast
- Coaching and waxing support at races throughout the season
- A mixture of skiing, running, ski striding, and other conditioning methods, plus roller skiing for U12 and older athletes.
- Training plans with independent workouts to complement group sessions.
While athletes are encouraged to race at school, club, or provincial events, there is no requirement to compete.
Practice Schedule:
The ski team typically trains from October through the end of March, with the option for athletes to continue summer training depending on interest.
Practice times may vary depending on the time of year and by age group, but generally include:
- Tuesday and Thursday evenings
- One weekend practice (day and time may vary by season)
New for This Year - Senior/Masters Program
New this season, we are revamping the Senior/Masters Program designed for adult skiers who want structured training, coaching support, and the motivation of a team environment.
The Masters Program includes:
- One designated Masters practice per week
- A training plan tailored toward popular Ontario loppets
- Opportunities to train alongside and learn from experienced coaches and racers
Whether you’re training for your first loppet or chasing a personal best, the Masters Program provides a fun, social, and supportive way to improve your skiing and fitness.
Prerequisites:
- Sufficient fitness and skiing experience to safely complete workouts with the group.
- A desire to train, work hard, and improve as part of a team
- Appropriate equipment for running, classic skiing, skate skiing and roller skiing (U12 and up) – some equipment may be available to rent but sizing is limited & availability are limited
While roller skiing and both techniques are encouraged, some athletes may choose to focus on skate skiing or forgo roller skiing.
Additional Costs:
- Kawartha Nordic Season Pass
- Roller skis (rental: $75/year)
- Classic skin skis (rental: $75/year, U12/U14 only)
- Optional Kawartha Nordic race suit and team clothing ($200–$500)
- Coaching and waxing support costs beyond 4 races for U16/18/20, 3 races for U12/14, 2 races for U10, and 1 race for Masters

Athletes can attend 2 ski team practices each week. Practices will likely coincide with 2 of the U16/U18/U20 practices, but the schedule will be decided at the beginning of the session based on coach availability.
This program starts with dryland training.

Rates do not include HST.
