Please read this important note from Beverley Cameron. The ski patrol provides a vital service to the Kawartha Nordic community and we strongly encourage you to consider joining the team.

Canadian Ski Patrol Registration and Training begins in September

The Kawartha Nordic Ski Club Ski Patrol is in need of additional members to come to the club and ski our trails. The Kawartha Nordic Ski Patrol are members of the Canadian Ski Patrol, who have 4,000 + members across Canada. At one time we had more than 35 patrollers and while our club has grown significantly, the number of volunteer members of the Canadian Ski Patrol has shrunk.

The training you receive in First Aid and CPR and AED to Health Care Provider Level could help someone at our ski club but more likely will be used to help a member of your own family, a friend, classmate or a colleague.

The club provides a free annual membership to members of the Kawartha Nordic Ski Patrol.
CSP provides all First Aid Supplies and your heavy Alpine Jacket for events and when using the rescue snowmobile which you will be trained to use. Our Kawartha Nordic Ski Patrol provides light jackets for skiing identification.

After the first year you will have visiting privileges at many xcountry and alpine ski areas and resorts in Canada. There is also the opportunity in the off season to patrol on bikes at marathons, Toronto bike events, runs, adventure races, tuff mudders etc. to keep your hand in and meet other CSP members.
The annual Canadian Ski Patrol membership dues which are $215 for the 2017/18 season will be defrayed by $100 by our patrol with the completion of a minimum of shifts filled for the season.

We have patrols available each weekend, but with enough new members we could reach our goal of coverage each day of the week and decrease our shifts to 4 hours each. Families are welcome. KNSP have their own Ski Pulk for use by our patrol members who have children.
Training for Rookies starts on September 19th and is scheduled to take place in Whitby on Tuesday evenings from 7 until 10 for 13 weeks. With enough new recruits we may be able to get a course in Peterborough. Second year patrollers can do a 7 week course. Currently returning patrollers will do online etraining; on-line National Written Exam; attend a CPR Day which includes AEDs, Oxygen handling and choking; and attend a Diagnostic Exam Session at Devil's Elbow, Sir Sam's or another area ski resort.

Those who are returning to CSP after a sabbatical can contact: kawarthazoneskipatrol@gmail.com to find out about recertification. I have requested that those returning to our KNSP be allowed to recertify as current returning patrollers.
